I’m a huge fan of the water, the beach, and anything nautical themed. As a matter of fact, if it weren’t for living in Colorado, my house would have a bit of a Cape-Cod seaside aesthetic to it. (Actually, I really should just go for it!)
So when wedding photographer Linda Murri sent me this Nautical lake house wedding inspiration session to feature, I couldn’t wait to share it with you!
I just adore ropes and navy blue, seashells and driftwood. Basically, anything that has a subtle reference to the sights and smells of a fresh oceanside breeze has my heart.
This style shoot offers all of that and more. This is a theme that encourages friends and family to dress up, but then enjoy laughter and hugs and simple cocktails after kicking off their heels to stick their toes in the sand. Relaxed, elegant, and thoughtful.
Driftwood, watercolor in shades of blue, sand, copper, and a few bits of lace bring this theme effortlessly together. This theme is perfect for couples who are getting married at land-locked lake houses (such as the venue highlighted here, The Lake house at Cherry Creek Denver, CO), or at seaside estates near the ocean.
A Nautical Lake House Wedding Inspiration Session
“I love the gorgeous sunset portraits and navy accents in the linen and decor. I was inspired to do this shoot because I love boating during the summer and wanted to feature a dreamy summer shoot at the lake House.”
These watercolor nautical ceremony signs by Hadley Custom Designs are everything!
For this style shoot, the bride wore a lace and tulle gown, and the bridesmaid wore a navy lace dress from Compleat Couture.
These gorgeous sugar cookies and chocolates by Astonishing Cakes blow me away.
The watercolor and attention to detail are beautiful and eye catching, and I love how they are set into edible sand. This would make a memorable dessert display, and would also add nautical details to your beach themed wedding that serve two purposes (decor and food)!
These gorgeous sailboats in driftwood and lace add simple texture and an inexpensive way to highlight the nautical theme of this wedding. They can also serve as favors, and would make a great DIY project.
A simple, elegant, sea-side inspired reception table invites guests to chat together over low centerpieces, mimosa or Moscow Mule in hand. Bringing in patterned tablecloths (rent or purchase) is a surprisingly inexpensive way to dress up a reception space and give it a unique feel!
Rented square plates from Allwell Rentals and navy runner and napkins from Chair Covers and Linens bring it all together. The sharp corners of the plates are a subtle homage to the triangular shapes of a sail, set atop wooden placemats for that extra bit of texture.
A down-to-Earth reception centerpiece and simple floral arrangement by The Fresh Flower Market using greenery, ferns, roses, shells, and hydrangeas, set inside a driftwood-inspired metal bowl.
Copper Moscow Mule mugs make the perfect statement in copper, with gorgeous watercolor calligraphy thank-you notes tied on in twine by Hadley Custom Designs.
Seashells are another simple, inexpensive way to tie a nautical wedding reception theme together.
More watercolor and calligraphy by Hadley Custom Designs in these stunning guest escort cards. These would be beautiful placed in a tray of sand for guests to pick up by the door, or staged on their place setting like this. So beautiful and a nice touch for your guests.
Seaside inspired eats by Biscuits & Berries are a refreshing and welcoming meal for guests who may have travelled far to be at the wedding.
Now for my favorite part, this cake!!! I cannot get over the beautiful watercolor detail on this nautical-inspired wedding cake by Astonishing Cakes. Three tiers in fondant with rope, wheel, and driftwood detailing. Set on a copper sequin table cloth with sand and shells, this is a statement piece that still feels elegant and natural.
Driftwood and sea glass are strung up behind the cake on twine to add texture to the walls. This would be a beautiful way to add interest behind the head table, or even at the ceremony altar!
